For many of us, the summer means nothing more than another season spent working all day inside. This arrangement makes enjoying summer difficult for those who work. However, you can learn to work full time and enjoy the summer. Here are some ways to get the most out of this summer as you work full time.
Avoid Working Overtime
Summer is not the time to work long hours. If you arrive early and stay late at work, you will soon resent being stuck at work as others enjoy the fantastic weather—volunteer for long hours in the winter. While at work, try to focus and finish your tasks to avoid working overtime.
Save up PTO
Summer is the ideal time for a vacation. The vacation can be a short one, too. A few days at a lake or in the mountains can make you feel like you are getting the most from the beautiful weather. Unfortunately, winter often drains PTO time with doctor appointments, illnesses and other events. Try to keep as much PTO time as possible for the warm weather.
Change up Your Lunch Routine
Are you eating lunch inside and staring at the clock until your lunch break ends? Change the routine. Go outside at lunchtime, eat on the patio, or walk in a local park. Time spent outdoors will help you recharge for the afternoon work hours. It can also help offset resentment at working while the weather is nice.
Change up Your Daily Commute
Try something different this summer if you drive or take a bus or train to work. Give yourself extra time and walk or bike to work. If this is not possible, then take a different route to work. A change in your routine can spice things up a bit.
Go Out After Work
Step out with friends or co-workers after work now and then. There are many summer activities that you can do in a group setting. You can try a new restaurant, take a class or catch a show. Once you plan, you will have something to look forward to the entire day at work.
Plan Fun Activities for the Weekend
Plan something fun for the weekend after a long grueling week in the office. Yes, it would help if you had time to relax, but the summer is the best time to plan adventurous activities. There are always new and exciting activities and events for you to explore during summer.
Keep a Beach Bag Handy
Keep a bag full of summer supplies for your favorite summer activities. The pack, including towels, sunscreen and swimwear, prepares you for anything. So if friends or co-workers hit you up to go to the pool or beach after work, you are ready to go!
